The most awkward time at a wedding is the time between the end of the ceremony and the start of the reception. Often, the bride and groom have to disappear to sign their license, take more picture, take a breath etc. During this time, the guests are moving from the ceremony to the reception area waiting for the bride and groom to appear. It is always our suggestion that the bar be open and that some type of appetizer is served. this allows your guests to begin their party time without standing around with their hands in their pockets waiting. It also takes the pressure off the bride and groom knowing that their guests are comfortable and occupied while they go about the final pieces of wedding business.
As I am looking out the window today I am thinking about our four brides that will be celebrating their wedding day on Saturday. Two of the venues are inside so they will not have to deal with the inclement weather but two of them are outside. The forecast is not looking good and it occurs to me that I have something I would like to pass along to these wonderful ladies. Rain or wind or bad weather is just that, it has no bearing on the true significance of this very special day. If it rains, well, it rains. Nothing anyone can do about it. Please do not lose sight of the fact that you are marrying the most special person in the world and that is truly the only thing that matters. We will do whatever we can to help make everyone comfortable, including moving the buffet indoors, across the street or to the local bowling alley. Don’t let this unfortunate situation bring you down. In the long run you will have one of the best wedding day stories ever. Keep your chin up and laugh. It’s just a wedding, its not a marriage and after nearly 24 years of marriage myself I can promise you, a little rain will not ever stack up to the challenges that await you. Its a wedding and the most important thing that will happen that day is that you will marry your true love. Let your love keep you warm and have Uncle Ted hold the umbrella to keep you dry.
Here’s to making your day the very best regardless,
One of the best part of our job is when we get a client that is willing to think outside of the box and take on the challenge of creating a buffet without using a table or tablecloth. I know, it sounds outrageous. We were presented with the opportunity by the Spokane Preservation Advocates this past weekend and jumped at the challenge. The Spokane Preservation Advocates fight to preserve the historic buildings in the greater Spokane area. Each year they host a huge themed gala to raise funds to support their cause. This year the theme was “Denim and Diamonds”. So, we created two menus, one to represent the Diamond side of the theme and one to represent the Denim side. The Diamond buffet was set in an upscale jewelry store and utilized two jewelry cases as the buffet tables kindly lent to us by The Jewelry Design Center. The Denim buffet was set at a car wrecking yard and utilized a car hood as the buffet and offered our patrons plates held in a Craftsman toolbox, salad served from a galvanized tub with a host of car parts and hub caps completing the decor. The event was a huge success and we are all very proud to have been part of it.
I don’t know about you but we have to do a complete turnover when the warmer weather arrives. Our flowers, for one, become much more difficult to deal with. In the colder months we set them out in the garage and they last forever. When it warms up we bring them inside or, if the vase is short enough, we put them in refrigerators. The problem with that is suddenly, refrigerator space is at a premium. Even with the big commercial units, space goes fast. In our next location we are going to have a huge walk in fridge and that will help a lot. The warm weather affects our drivers as well seeing as they can’t put anything into the car until they are ready to go. Salad sitting in a warm car is never a good idea. Consequently, when it’s time to load up and leave we are suddenly a very busy little shop as everyone is loading at once. It can get comical. But, I do love sitting out on the deck at the end of the day and for that, the extra work is well worth while.
Keeping you full,
